for prostate cancer
The Chestnut Appeal's aim is to raise awareness of prostate cancer in Devon and Cornwall and is at the heart of everything we do. We fund the very latest in treatments  and technology that wouldn't be available without our support. In addition to this we also fund Prostate Cancer Nurse Specialists in our hospitals. In Devon and Cornwall these are known as Chestnut Nurses. We are delighted to continue working in such a way with our local Hospitals and look forward to many more years of positive partnership.

THE DAVE HANKIN BIG BAND

Glasgow born Dave Hankin started his musical journey being taught trombone at school by Maynard Ferguson's lead trumpet player John Donnelly and afterwards developing his writing skills with Maynard Ferguson's arranger Adrian Drover.
He became a professional musician in 1983 when he worked in Singapore and Malaysia, after which he went on to become a Musical Director working in London. As an accomplished arranger, Dave's orchestrations have been performed by, among others, Urbie Green, Jiggs Whigham, Don Lusher and Roy Williams. His music has been broadcast on radio and television and his arrangements have been performed by the BBC Big Band. As a trombonist he has played with stars such as Matt Munro, Jack Parnell, Kenny Baker, Peter King, Don Lusher and the BBC Scottish Radio Orchestra.

Dave moved to Plymouth in 2006 to open a hotel and he soon set about bringing together the cream of the southwest's musicians to form his 'Big Band'.
The trumpet section has been chosen for the variety and depth it can offer. All lead players are great improvisers in their own right, the  trumpets offer a power house to compliment any big band. The wealth of experience the saxophone section offers and with all the section players being multi-instrumentalists, the saxes add a palette of colour to complement the big band. Individually the trombonists are very talented and there is scarcely a big band around in which one or more of the section has not played. The rhythm section boasts a wide range of talents with the musicians being required to play almost any style, needing a high degree of musicianship from each player.
