Dave Hankin moved to Plymouth in 2006 and he soon gathered the cream of the
South-west’s musicians, some of them band-leaders in their own right, to form his ‘Big Band’.
The trumpet section has been chosen for the variety and depth it can offer. All the lead players
are great improvisers and the trumpets have become a power house to complement any big band.
The saxophone section offers a wealth of experience and with all the section players being
multi-instrumentalists, the saxes add a palette of colour to this band. Individually the trombonists
are very talented and there is scarcely a big band around in which one or more of the section has
not played. The rhythm section boasts a wide range of talents and all the players have a high degree
of musicianship.
Trumpets: Brian Moore, Graham Hutton, Mike Brewer & Callam Dowd.
Saxophones: Gordon Carter (alto), Paul Daff (tenor), Tony McQuarry (tenor), Chris Bundy (tenor) & Dave Lambert (baritone).
Trombones: Andy Dore, Sam Smith, Chris Spreadbury & Si Nicholls.
Rhythm: Gavin Martin (piano), Jesse Mollins (guitar), Mike Isaac (bass), Andy Miller (drums).
Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Ted Heath, Stan Kenton, the Dave Hankin Big Band embraces the music
of all these bands and more. A great band for listening and dancing.
The band are very generously giving their services free in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support so come along for a
terrific evening's entertainment, knowing that your entrance fee will go to this very deserving Charity!
