Lee Gibson with The Martin Dale Quartet

       Plymouth Jazz Club is delighted to bring back Lee Gibson with the Martin Dale Quartet, following a great performance in 2015. Lee is a nationally and internationally acclaimed jazz singer who has delighted critics and fans alike with her wonderful voice, innate sense of swing and dynamic stage presence. She is justly renowned for her musicality and the originality of her interpretations. Lee has appeared at all the major jazz venues and festivals throughout the UK also headlining festivals in Australia and performing throughout Europe. As well as working with her own trio and quartet, Lee is a highly respected and accomplished big band vocalist and has worked with all the major bands in the UK and Europe. When performing with the Danish Radio Big Band, their conductor, the late Thad Jones described her as a "truly marvellous jazz singer".

Lee has appeared at all major venues and festivals throughout the UK and Europe. In addition to being one of the UK’s premier jazz performers, her talent continues to be recognised internationally. Lee has performed at festivals in France, Belgium, Germany, Denmark, the Czech Republic, Holland, Sydney, South Africa, the USA and represented the UK at the Latvian Jazz Festival in Riga. She has appeared in many films and television shows including 7 Royal Variety Shows.
A keen jazz educator, she is Senior Professor for Jazz at the Guidhall School of Music and is tutoring a MEhr Summer School at Chichester University.

The Martin Dale Quartet gave a highly applauded performance at the Club in April last year with guest Roger Marks, and the Quartet is expected to comprise the same great musicians, see below.
        Martin Dale is one of the busiest and most popular saxophonists in the South West. He was a member of the John Burch Octet, and is also a member of the London based groups “Sax Appeal” with Derek Nash and the "Jack Bruce Blues Experience". He has worked on the Q.E.2 as lead alto, backing such artists as Neil Sedaka, Petula Clark, and Tom Jones.
Martin’s Plymouth based band has worked with Jim Mullen, Roy Williams, Derek Nash, Dick Pearce, Bruce Adams, and X-Factor winner, Alexandra Burke.
Martin has recorded for the BBC on radio and television sound tracks. To date he has released 8CDs which have been played on both Radio 2, 3 and Jazz FM.
Martin makes regular appearances at UK Jazz festivals and has played at Ronnie Scotts Club; The 606; The Bull's Head, Barnes; Pizza Express, Dean St.; The 100 Club; Concord Club.

               Gavin Martin, piano, is a regular member of Martin Dale's groups and also plays with the Dave Hankin Big Band. He started playing piano at the age of 7. In 1980 he joined the Royal Marines School of Music. In 1994 he completed the 12 month Bandmasters' class and was awarded the Silver Medal of the Worshipful Company of Musicians.

       Kevin Sanders is one of the most in-demand bass players in the West. He has been a member of Martin's bands for several years and has played with many of the top UK musicians.

Denis Harris, drums, is a member of the Tony Harris Quartet which put on a fine
performance for the Club's 30th. Anniversary gig in July. Dennis is a very versatile musician who features regularly with the Martin Dale Quartet and also plays with various jazz, rock & soul groups in the South-west.
