Plymouth Jazz Club is delighted to at last bring back to Plymouth Jazz Club after seven years, world-class saxophonist Derek Nash with
Martin Dale and the Craig Milverton Trio.
At the forefront of the British Jazz movement, Derek Nash is "one of the most versatile saxophonists in the UK today" (The Guardian).
Derek has been a member of the Jools Holland Rhythm and Blues Orchestra since 2004, has led Sax Appeal for over thirty years, fronts the funk/fusion
band Protect the Beat, and is a member of the Ronnie Scott's Blues Explosion.
He is renowned for his energetic, vibrant, passionate and charismatic performances on all four saxophones - from sonorous baritone to soaring soprano
- and is an award-winning performer having received the John Dankworth Award and the British Jazz Award (Small Group) for Sax Appeal. He received
Best Jazz CD of the Year for Young Lions, Old Tigers with the late Spike Robinson, receiving the same British Jazz Award for "Joyriding" by
The Derek Nash Acoustic Quartet in 2012. He regularly appears in the British Jazz awards nominations in several categories (Alto/Tenor and Baritone)
and was nominated for Jazz Musician of the Year by the Global Music Foundation. Derek has played with Don and Dave Grusin, John Dankworth, Ray Gelato,
John Etheridge, Russell Ferrante, Nelson Rangell, Snake Davis, Bob Dorough, Oscar Castro Neves, Lillian Boutte, Clare Teal, Jamie Cullum,
Humphrey Lyttelton, Alan Barnes and many others. He has performed live and on TV with such greats as Eric Clapton, Amy Winehouse, Emeli Sande,
Jessie J, Sir Paul McCartney, Solomon Burke, Annie Lennox, Eddie Floyd, Sam Moore, Madeleine Peyroux, Roger Daltrey, David Sanborn, Eddi Reader and
Tom Jones.
Martin Dale is one of the busiest and most popular
saxophonists in the South West and has had a long association with Derek. He was a member of the John Burch Octet, and is also a member of the
London based groups “Sax Appeal” with Derek Nash and the "Jack Bruce Blues Experience". He has worked on the Q.E.2 as lead alto,
backing such artists as Neil Sedaka, Petula Clark, and Tom Jones.
Martin’s Plymouth based band has worked with Jim Mullen, Roy Williams, Derek Nash, Lee Gibson, Dick Pearce, Bruce Adams, and
X-Factor winner, Alexandra Burke.
Martin has recorded for the BBC on radio and television sound tracks. To date he has released 8CDs which have been
played on both Radio 2, 3 and Jazz FM.
Martin makes regular appearances at UK Jazz festivals and has played at Ronnie Scotts Club; The 606; The Bull's
Head, Barnes; Pizza Express, Dean St.; The 100 Club; Concord Club.
The Craig Milverton Trio needs no introduction to Plymouth jazz fans, being quite simply one of the best and
most sought-after accompanying groups in the country and first choice for major American jazzmen like Ken Peplowski, Scott Hamilton and Greg Abate. The trio
regularly appears at festivals and venues across the UK. Featuring award-winning pianist Craig himself, great London bassist Ashley John Long plus Coach
York, the busiest most experienced drummer in the West, this completes a terrific line-up!
An evening of top class swinging jazz standards from a top class ensemble.
